Johann Sebastian Bach’s Partita in D minor (BWV 1004) contains five movements which are closely interrelated. The coherence of Allemanda, Corrente, Sarabanda, Giga, and Ciaccona is created by the formal, structural and matching harmonies and similarities of the movements. The relation is further strengthened by quotations from the earlier movements appearing in the Ciaccona, but not in quotation marks, so to speak. These are organically, almost unnoticeably, interwoven into the musical process. The 64 variation-based movement stands out not only from the Partita and the six solo sonata and partita cycle but from the entire solo violin repertoire. It is unique due to its unusual length, complexity, and sometimes mysterious musical associations.

Regardless of the book, it can also be purchased as a separate product.
